Hand-Delivered Meals via Amistad

The humbling work being done by Cooking for Community partners to feed the underserved reaches people where they are. For partner organization, Amistad, that means hand delivered meals to downtown, the waterfront, motels, campsites and parks. After a delivery, an Amistad representative shared the following:

“Recently, my friend and I were distributing some Little Giant boxes along the waterfront… We handed a box to this person and he said, ‘Oh, this is good. I thought I was going to go hungry tonight.’ The way he said this devastatingly normalized hunger during this pandemic.

While Portland is a relatively food-rich city, people who experience poverty choose not to go to the stationary food distribution facilities for many reasons. With your help, we have been able to outreach with food. It is not just food we end up handing, but also the boxes become the start of a connection, a conversation about what is happening for people today, what they need for the night or the week. These conversations have led us to support people with sleeping bags, motels, phones, snap benefits and so much more. Thank you so much for making this happen.”
