C4C Turned One Month Old!
WE HAVE GROWN TO SERVE OVER 2,000 MEALS EACH WEEK. Thank you to everyone involved.
On April 30th Cooking for Community (C4C) turned one month old! From what started as a simple idea to get food to a few people in need has grown into an astonishing example of the strength of collective action. We raise money to fund restaurants who then source local food to prepare cooked, healthy meals to be distributed through social service agency partners to feed the growing number of people in need in Maine.
In this short time, we have grown to serve over 2,000 meals a week! Our ranks now include:
18 full- or part-time volunteer organizers who donate their time and expertise to coalesce and implement our work.
35 partnering organizations, including restaurants, social service agencies, business donors and sponsors, artists, and more. A special thanks to Catholic Charities of Maine, our financial sponsor!
22 members of our Brain Power Collective — bright and engaged community members who advise, consult, and fundraise.
60 individuals who have reached out to volunteer.
Over 325 individual and foundation donors, giving from $5 to $40,000 and every. single. gift. matters.
Huge thanks to our founding restaurant partners: Chaval, Little Giant, Union, Gather, Mamma Mo’s, Istanbul Restaurant and Bakery, and Mr. Tuna. Because of their commitment and generosity, alongside the hard work of their chefs, we are supplying healthy cooked meals to people in need through Wayside, Amistad, Preble Street, Bath Housing, My Place Teen Center, Long Creek Youth Development Center, the Boys and Girls Club, and the YMCA. Each one of those connections represents a unique story and a commitment from people to give back.
